Afterwards, hop on board a ‘trishaw’ and kick back while your driver pedals you to the nearby Raffles Hotel, the oldest in Singapore and an icon of the country’s colonial past. Today, explore the history of the tiny nation of Singapore - referred to lovingly as the Little Red Dot – and how it has transformed from a sleepy fishing village to an metropolitan powerhouse. Start your adventure by hopping onboard a traditional bumboat, a humble mode of water transportation that’s operated both to ferry goods and people across Singapore River for decades. Set sail across the watery stretches bound for Merlion Park, home to a magnificent statue and water fountain shaped as the mythical creature. Take in beautiful views of Marina Bay waterfront and snap a few photos at the iconic statue before heading down to the Civic District. Here, take a wander through the boulevards lined with historic buildings before continuing down Orchard Road, a chic shopping avenue that’s the beating heart of Singapore’s glitzy commercial centre. Finally, head to the nearby National Orchid Garden for a deep breath and a wind down. Spend time here exploring the garden’s 60,000 plants and orchids and keep an eye out for the country’s national flower, Vanda Miss Joaquim, before heading back to your hotel.
